Måske fordi Bothildas stedsøn Nis boede i Portland,Oregon. Portland/Newberg ca. 40 km.Med pengene kunne Elda købe jord og hus.
Dori Wilkins: "Elda used it to buy a lovely piece of land with a nice home. Bothilda was able to live another 22 years comfortably. Elda remarried and Bothilda helped raise my heart grandmother Hazel and Elda's new children. My grandmother, Arbelyn, was the only great grandchild I think she helped raise as well. I spent a lot of time on my grandparents farm growing up. My great grandmother, Hazel, talked about Bothilda quite often and tried to teach me danish words. I don't remember any. I never thought I would find family from Denmark!"
- Dori Wilkins: "Hans was killed in a work accident. He was crushed by logs. That was July of 1900. Then Joachim died the next year, I believe of TB, but I will fact check that. Because the accident that killed Hans, Elda, his wife, received $25,000. Elda, Bothilda, and my baby grandmother Hazel, then came to Oregon. I think because Nis came here in Portland, which is about 25 miles from Newberg. So with that money, Elda used it to buy a lovely piece of land with a nice home. I don't remember any."
