I'll switch to English, which is easier for me.
I have been retired since 2001, just before I turned 56 years of age.
I have worked as a geologist in mineral exploration and foundation
investigations . I have also taught 7th through 12th grade (junior
and senior high school) for 22 years in the area of mathematics and
physical science. The science was mostly geology, astronomy and
meteorology. Since retirement I have taught part-time at the
University of Alaska. The class was Geography 205, Physical
Geography. Resume: http://www.bjarneholm.com/resume
Father: Christian Holm, born: 8-9-1919 (must be 8 September - from
the grave stone) died 7-2-1950 ( 7 February, 1950). He died in an

am quite sure he lived his entire life in Haderslev.

CHRISTMAS 2008
Snow is falling and another year is coming to an end. Both Robin and I are doing well, pursuing our hobbies, interests and work in our "retirement". Robin works with a contractor and oversees the road maintenance, upgrades and snow plowingof 18 miles of road in our neighborhood. She also volunteers once each week with the Food Bank of Alaska, and serves on the Board of HALO, Home and Land Owners for our "Hillside" area of town. HALO is an umbrella organization for several lo
cal community councils. However, it is Gambler, her horse, that is one of her big joys in life, stabled just a ten minute walk from where we live.
I taught a cultural geography class at the University of Alaska in the spring, and just a few weeks ago I found myself confronted by a job offer I could not refuse. I am now back working part-time as a geologist for R&M Consultants, working
on exciting resource development projects, together with a half dozen individuals I have known and worked with over the past 28 to 38 years. Just a bit more grey hair.
I stepped from being treasurer to being president of the Anchorage Lions Club, a social services organization. Sight preservation is the core mission of our efforts, but we also organize a big charity golf tournament, we man aid stations fo
r cycling events, help with Food Bank distributions, and rings bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas time, just to mention a few of the activities. Mainly we have a lot of fun, and meet once each week for lunch and guest speakers.
We both took a number of trips to the Lower-48 this past year. In January Robin took off to the south horse country, visiting John and Marywade Gilbert's "Horsebreakers Ranch" in Arizona, where Robin bought her horse a number of years ago.
From there Robin and a couple of friends attended the Denver Stock Show.
Portland, Oregon was the most frequent destination in the Lower-48. In July we attended the wedding of Camilo and Wesley Bruce. Wesley is Robin's cousin John Grout's daughter. There were 600+ in attendance within a beautiful outdoor estate
and gorgeous weather. Just recently we were back down for the big Thanksgiving dinner hosted by John and Kelsey Grout.
In May I joined up with other cycling friends for a week at the home of Kay and Bill Howitt, in Sutherland, Oregon, to get an early start on the cycling season. From Oregon I joined up with another friend Roy Naylor to hike around for a week exploring the natural splendors of southern Utah. As September rolled around, it was again time for me to head back south to take part in Cycle Oregon, my fourth time to ride in the event. At the end of the event Robin and I spent time wi
th family and friends, and had time to ourselves along the beaches on Oregon's west coast.
During the summer here in Alaska Robin and I joined with a group of our friends in July for a week long trip to Haines, Alaska. The journey took us through Canada along the way, giving us a chance to hike around some spectacular country.
One of the year's highlights was the Fireweed bicycle race. Robin and I teamed up in a relay to ride from Sheep Mountain Lodge to Valdez, a 200 mile ride through spectacular natural terrain. The event started in rain weather, but that soon
gave way to glorious sunshine. We were excited about finishing the event in under 12 hours. From Valdez we took the high speed ferry to Whittier, and drove from there back to Anchorage.
We were fortunate to have several visitors this past year. Sonja Brandt, a life long friend, came from Denmark, and in August Jack and Christine Canfield from Minneapolis and their two friends came to see what Alaska is all about.
As we look forward to next year, we have travel plans for Italy and Austria. There will be bicycling at the base of the Dolomites, sightseeing and hiking, and a bunch of horsing around.
MAIL 27.12.2008
åØåHi Allan, Hanne and Mette,
Thanks you so much for the surprising photos. I forwarded your email
to my cousin Marianne and her husband Leif (Jørgensen) in Haderslev,
Marianne is sister to Lone, who was pictured in the last photo you
sent. All three of us are grandchildren of Marie Terp (or Anne Marie
Terp). The first photo you sent was from the wedding of Marianne and
Lones' parents, Hans and Tinne Holm.
My father, Christian Holm is present in the wedding photo. He is on
the far left, looking to his right.
The second photo, the one in shades of brown, is a photo of me when I
was about 6 years old.
The third photo is of me and my grandparents in Haderslev.
The next photo is of me and my grandparents. My grandmother has the
same textured dress on. I think to the right of my grandmother is
Tante Didde, or Didde Terp, my grandmother's sister.
Finally is the photo of Lone Holm, my cousin in Haderslev. The two
older girls are Lærke, on the left, and Freja on the right. I think
they go by the last name Holm-Fredsøe. Lone has never married Knud
Fredsøe. I do not know the woman in the black jacket. The little girl
in the pink is probably her daughter.
The only other individuals on the terp side of the family that I know
is the Heissel family on Allergård (Peter and his mother).
I would very much like to initiate contact and correspond with with
the rest of the Terp family. I am saving all the photos you sent, and
I'd love to receive more. You, and all of the Terp extended family
are all welcome to visit us in Alaska. Thank you for your invitation
to us.
When I visited Denmark in 1973, the first time traveling by myself,
that was the first time members within two divisions on my family on
my mother's side spoke to one another, because of what might have
happened during the second world war. Marianne has not been to work
yet to see the photos you sent to me, and I forwarded to her. I
called her by phone two days ago, and she told me that her mother
never wants to talk about the war, and Marianne knows little of her
extended family. Marianne's mother, Tinne Holm, just turned 90 years
old. She is in a nursing home. I do not think she can see much any
more, but she can carry on a fairly lucid conversation.
Thank you for your efforts in reuniting our family.
Cheers, Bjarne and Robin Holm
